Union Power Cooperative is committed to providing members a reliable source of power to meet the current and future needs of the community. As part of this commitment to our members, we are continually monitoring our system to identify where upgrades or new infrastructure are needed.
As a result of these system planning studies we have determined that a new electrical substation is needed in the Rocky River Road area, just west of Monroe. This new substation, which will be referred to as the Willoughby Substation, will be located at the intersection of North Rocky River Road and Watkins Road.
The benefits of this particular site are that it allows Union Power to efficiently tie into both the existing distribution lines and connect to the existing transmission system, minimizing the need to run additional lines in the area. In addition to increasing the reliability and resiliency of the electrical system in the area, the new substation will also provide additional capacity to support the growing community.
