Warmth Without Worry
January 2, 2026
As temperatures drop, some choose to use space heaters as a way to warm their homes. However, it’s essential to understand their safety and proper use to keep you and your family safe this winter.
- Make sure your heater is sized correctly for the room you want to heat. Most heaters provide a sizing guide to assist you.
- Never plug the heater into a power strip! Always plug it directly into a wall outlet.
- Never leave a heater unattended around pets or children. Keep it at least 3 feet away from anything that could potentially catch on fire or cause accidental burns.
- When leaving a room or going to sleep, set a timer or turn off the heater.
Remember, space heaters are designed to be supplemental heaters, not a primary source for heating.
