The Power of Preparedness
March 6, 2025
Spring is a season of transformation, bringing vibrant blooms, warmer weather, and opportunities for families to enjoy the outdoors. However, this refreshing season also marks the beginning of the storm season, which brings unpredictable weather patterns of heavy rain and strong winds. These conditions can lead to significant impacts such as fallen trees, downed power lines, and widespread power outages.
As your cooperative, our crews are always ready to respond to power outages during storms. When severe weather causes disruptions, our line crews take precautions before working on downed power lines.
While providing safe and reliable power is our top priority and ensuring our members’ needs are taken care of, we cannot predict Mother Nature’s plan, and sometimes circumstances are beyond our control. But as a member of Union Power, you can feel confident knowing we’re standing by, ready to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. In the meantime, we encourage you
to be prepared too.
Proactive Steps You Can Take:
- Stock your pantry with a three-day supply of non-perishable foods like canned goods, energy bars, water, and essentials like diapers and toiletries.
- Have sanitation and hygiene supplies ready (towelettes, soap, and hand sanitizer).
- Ensure your first aid kit is stocked with pain relievers, bandages, and other medical essentials.
- Save Union Power’s outage number, 1-800-794-4423, as a contact before the event of an outage.
- Set aside essential items—flashlights, batteries, portable charger, manual can opener, and battery-powered radio or TV.
- Stay away from any downed power lines. If you encounter one, report it immediately to Union Power.
As mother nature is unpredictable, having a plan and being prepared is always beneficial. As your cooperative, we are always storm ready before the storm approaches. If you experience an outage, we advise you to call or text “OUT” to 1-800-794-4423. Once you have reported the outage, you can get real-time updates by texting “STATUS” or visiting our outage map on outage.union-power.com. Also, make sure to follow us on social media, where we promptly update our members and the community about outages and emergencies.
