Get Your HVAC Ready Before the Heat Hits!
April 1, 2025
Don’t wait for the first warm day of spring to check your HVAC system. These four simple steps can help ensure your comfort throughout the summer while keeping energy usage efficient.
- Fresh Air, Healthy Home. Installing a new filter is one of the top ways to improve your HVAC performance and contribute to lower energy costs. Not following recommended filter change intervals can result in clogged or dirty filters. We recommend changing air filters every 30 days to help your HVAC system run longer and increase energy usage.
- Tidy Up Your Outdoors! Maintaining a debris-free area around your unit and clearing the area of any plants, branches, pine needles, or other items around your HVAC will help the system perform more efficiently. To optimize the performance, leave a clearance of at least two feet on all sides of the unit.
- Keep it Flowing: Clean Your AC’s Drain Lines. Every air-conditioning system has a condensation drain line that drains condensation from the AC system to the outdoors or another drain system. If the pipe is clogged, the overflow pan could spill into the attic or crawl space, which could cause significant damage to the home.
- Clean Vents and Keep Your Home Breathing Better. Walk through your home and examine each return vent. Make sure there is no dust or debris and the vents are fully open and not covered to provide an even amount of airflow throughout the home.
Creating a routine and dedicating time to follow these four energy-efficient steps for maintenance and repairs, can help protect your HVAC unit against potential breakdowns and high energy bills.
As your power company, we recommend servicing your system yearly or bi-yearly by a professional HVAC company/individual. By seeking professional help and following our four energy-efficient steps, you will feel comfortable knowing your unit is functioning more efficiently.
