Parkwood Substation
Union Power Cooperative is committed to providing members a reliable source of power to meet the current and future needs of the community. As part of this commitment to our members, we continually monitor our system to identify where upgrades or new infrastructure are needed.
As a result of these system planning studies we have determined that the existing Parkwood Substation, located on Lancaster Highway, will soon no longer be capable of serving the needs of the community. Therefore, a new electrical substation is needed. This new substation, which will also be referred to as the Parkwood Substation, will be located approximately ¼-mile south of the existing substation on Lancaster Highway. After the new substation is constructed and placed in service, the existing substation will be decommissioned and removed.
The benefits of the new site are that it is large enough to accommodate a modern substation, the site has existing mature tree cover that will serve to screen the facility from adjacent properties, and it allows Union Power to efficiently tie into both the existing distribution and transmission lines. In addition to increasing the reliability and resiliency of the electrical system in the area, the new substation will also provide additional capacity to support the growth of the community.
