NC GreenPower

Created by the North Carolina Utilities Commission, NC Green Power is an independent nonprofit program dedicated to encouraging the development of renewable energy. It is designed to help improve the quality of the environment by allowing North Carolinians to choose cleaner “greener” energy solutions.

You can make a difference.

For as little as $4 a month, you can help:

  • Add green energy to the power grid
  • Keep COout of the air
  • Reduce dependence on fossil fuels
  • Build more green energy resources
  • Offset about 10 percent of your home’s energy use

How does the program work? Participation is completely voluntary, and you can opt to donate on your electric bill.

NC GreenPower has launched two new pilot programs. One of the pilots will change how your renewable energy donation is used.

Renewable Energy

NC GreenPower has launched a Solar Schools pilot program to support the installation of solar on schools which will change how your renewable energy donation is used.

  • For each $4 donation to Renewable Energy from a customer, NC GreenPower will split the contribution into two:
  1. $2.00 will pay a premium to an eligible generator producing a 50 kWh block of green power which is supplied to the electric grid in North Carolina.
  2. $2.00 will support the installation of a small (2-3 kW) solar PV project atK-12 schools in North Carolina.

If you wish to “opt out” of the NC GreenPower Solar Schools pilot and direct your entire $4.00 donation to a 100 kWh block only supporting generators in the current NC GreenPower program, you will need to contact NC GreenPower directly:

Mail: NC GreenPower, Attn: Opt out pilot, 909 Capability Drive, Suite 2100, Raleigh, NC 27606
